アメリカで暮らす私が長年抱いていたこの問いかけをもとに、2001年夏、ミステリオは小学生から高校生を対象とした、インターナショナル・サマーキャンプとしてスタートしました。
そして今では、サマーキャンプだけでなく、中高生を対象にしたミステリオ・テイーンズやスマイリーズと共に、大人の有志を募り慰問に出かけるサンターズなど、年間を通して様々な活動を行うまでに成長することができました。
私が参加者のみなさんに願うこと、それは、ひとり一人が違うことの素晴らしさを知り、仲間を尊敬(Respect)すること、そして社会や世界に目を向け、ひとり一人の責任（Responsibility)を意識し、行動を起こすことです。
それにはまず、自分の足でしっかりと立ち、(Independent)、情熱（Passion)を注げられる何かを見つけ、勇気(Courage)を持って何ごとにもチャンレジすることが大切だと信じます。
そして、このことこそが、ミステリオのスローガンである"Make A Difference"（自分からすすんで何かを良い方向に変えていく）につながると信じています。
どんなに小さくても、自分や仲間、社会に対してできることは、きっとあるはずだから。
ミステリオは、楽しみながら自分を知るところ、そして仲間や社会に何ができるかを一緒に考え行動するところとして、これからもたくさんの機会を、みなさまに提供し続けたいと思っています。

In 2001, I launched MSTERIO as an authentic American-style summer camp in Japan, as a way to fulfill my long-held quest.
In the years since then, with your gracious support, MSTERIO has grown into a organization with year-round events.
My hope is that you can discover how wonderful it is that each of us is different. And for each of you to become Independent and find something you can dedicate your Passion to. If you truly believe in yourself, I believe you can survive and flourish in any environment.
At MSTERIO we emphasize the importance of Respect for the people around you, no matter where you are, as well as being conscious of the Responsibility you have to the world around you. This is why our motto is “Make a Difference,” as we strive for each of you to become a Good Citizen. Because no matter how small, there’s always something you can do for others or for the world.
At MSTERIO we plan to continue to provide many opportunities to you as a place where you can get to know yourself and think about what you can do for others and for the world. We hope you’ll continue to join us.
